Iguanas Class Schedule

7:30 am – 9.00am: Welcome and Free Play
The classroom is set up with a variety of activities for the children to choose between. Teacher guided options include theme related art project activities, water play, woodwork, painting, baking, gardening and animal feeding.

9:00 am – 9:15 am: Tidy Time
Activities are returned to the shelves and the art and baking areas are wiped down

9:15 am – 9:30 am: Outdoor Play
The children have a brief run around and some fresh air in the garden.

9:30 am – 10:00 am: Circle time
This is a teacher led group lesson, a time of more direct teaching on the particular theme of choice. Be it life cycles, dinosaurs or the work of a great artist; a vast range of topics are covered throughout the year. The teacher will use a variety of teaching mediums for effectiveness; group discussions, storytelling, songs, interactive activities and drama.

10:00 am- 10:15 am: Morning Snack Time
Snack consists of mixed fruit salad and baked goods (often homemade).

10:15 am – 11:30 am: Playtime in the Garden
Digging, climbing, bike riding, sand play and endless opportunities for social interaction.

10:10 am – 10:50 am: Literacy Time
During this outdoor play time, small groups of children are brought inside to participate in 20 minute Jolly Phonics literacy lessons. In short, a story, song, action and worksheet relating to each letter of the alphabet are introduced. These sessions are fun, effective and thoroughly enjoyed by the children.

11:30 am – 12:00 pm: Hand Washing & Lunch Time

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm: Sleep Time/Quiet Time
Those children who no longer need a sleep during the day go to the Club House for quiet activities. These activities include computer time, arts & crafts, storytelling, puppets and books, building, Sensory play, nature trails, animal interactions, watering the vegetable garden and time in the butterfly garden.

1:30 pm – 2:15 pm: Free Play
The children are brought back into the main class for free play with the theme related activities/materials from the shelves. The children that have slept begin to awaken and are invited to join their friends as they are ready.

2:15 pm – 2:30 pm: Tidy Time

2:30 pm – 3:00pm: Mathematics
This is a teacher led group lesson introducing early math skills. The children are taught calendar skills, days of the week, months of the year, patterns, various counting strategies and how to write the number symbols 0 – 20.

3:00 pm – 3:15 pm: Outdoor Play
The children enjoy a quick run around the garden and some fresh air.

3:15 pm – 3:40 pm: Spanish or Music Time
We alternate lesson plans each afternoon between Spanish and music.
-Music time is guitar led and the children partake in songs, dance & movement and explore a variety of rhythms and percussion instruments.
-During Spanish, the children are introduced to basic conversational vocabulary, colours, shapes, parts of the body and animals.

3:40 pm – 4:00 pm: Afternoon Snack Time

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm: Outdoor Play & Home Time
Time for play with friends or in the arms of a teacher
